Humby Chapel

OUR VILLAGES AND ITS CHAPEL.
Humby Chapel is in the hamlet of Great Humby which is in the parish of Old Somerby. The congregation is largely drawn from Little Humby which lies in the parish of Ropsley. Together the two Humby Villages have a population of about 120, 25 of which are children.
Humby Chapel is unusual. It is not formally part of North Beltisloe group - it is a ‘Chapel of Ease’. It is not licensed for public worship, and is not consecrated, although the Bishop of Lincoln did ‘dedicate’ it in 2008. The Chapel is in good condition with new carpeting, rewiring, improved lighting, altar cloths, and an outside bench seat.
The Chapel, and its surrounding land is owned by Mr Tim Radford. He is impressed by the good offices of the Chapel Committee plus the remarkable numbers who attend services. We are working with him to set up a more formal structure which will secure our long term independence.

OUR CHURCH SERVICES
About 7 or 8 services are held each year which attract an average attendance of about 40 (there were 85 at the 2010 carol service). In the last few years there have been a number of Baptisms. Humby Chapel has a real ecumenical contribution to make in the area. It is particularly good to see so many young families supporting the regular services.

HOW WE ARE ORGANISED
We are run by a Committee of local residents and have a public AGM. Both Ropsley and Old Somerby PCCs are represented on the Committee. Each year we make a contribution towards both of these parishes’ Share request.
The relationship with the North Beltisloe Group is very strong. Two of our members take a lead role in its Ministry Team and conduct services at other Group churches. We are also represented on the Group Council
