St Margaret’s

Braceby

Our village and its church

Braceby is a very small village (25 residents in 12 houses) at the northern edge of the benefice. 6 of the residents are youngsters. There are 16 on the electoral role.

St Margaret’s Church is a focal point for village life. All villagers work willingly to keep the church open, including the professed non-believers! The building dates from the 13thC and is kept unlocked. Our ancient working bells are of particular interest to visitors. The church building has no electricity or water connections.

The village is a group of friends who support each other’s needs and activities. We regularly contribute to Grantham Passage and the Food Bank plus Christian Aid. Villagers usually take part in the Lincolnshire Old Churches’ Trust Ride & Stride event. We organise a quiz at Ropsley Village Hall each November which is much enjoyed by members of the other benefice churches.

CHURCH SERVICES

Church Services normally take place on the second Sunday of the month and alternate between Holy Communion and a family service. Average attendance is 11.

Occasional offices are infrequent. There were no baptisms, weddings of funerals in 2015.

THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL

The PCC has a formal AGM in March/April each year and otherwise meets as required to enact its business. There are 17 on the electoral role, all of whom are on the PCC.

THE STATE OF OUR BUILDINGS

The PCC fully accepts its responsibility to maintain St Margaret’s in full working order. The basic structure of the building is sound. We use Quinquennial Inspections to prioritise our maintenance activities. Over the past 10 years we have spent nearly £100,000 on roof refurbishment. English Heritage supported this renovation project.
